The City of Newcastle is a foundation supporter of the SailFest Newcastle Regatta, with support for the tourism industry and sporting facilities being among more than 70 services it provides to the community.
Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes (ALP) serves as Lord Mayor while the Deputy Lord Mayor is Councillor Declan Clausen (ALP).
In partnership with Newcastle City Council, SailFest Newcastle aims to grow into a commercially sustainable event that provides a platform for attracting future yachting and tourism events and contributes significantly to overnight visitor spend.
Key Objectives:
- Create a positive economic impact through increased visitation and visitor spend
- Increase national/international media exposure for Newcastle as a sailing destination
- Increase the profile of Newcastle City Council as a supporter of tourism and events
- Increase the profile of the Newcastle coast as a year-round tourism destination in NSW.
